A Tunisian project receives “2007 Energy Globe Award”

Tunis, May 12, 2008- (TunisiaOnline)--An eco tourism project set up by the a Tunisian architect was awarded the “2007 Energy Globe Award” for the efficiency of its energy consumption and its capacity to integrate and valorise the 5 natural elements, water, air, earth, sun and wood.

The project set up by Mr Faiez Rouissi, was chosen among 10 pilot projects of the East and South of the Mediterranean over a total of 853 projects, from some 109 countries competing for the award.

It will be realized in the Beni Mtir area in the delegation of Fernana , in the governorate of Jendouba , by setting up a bio-climatic conception of residential and tourist units in the area.

The project was designed with the help of the international centre of environmental technologies in Tunis (CITET) and the MED –ENEC program (Energy efficiency in the construction sector in the Mediterranean and the European Union).

Both agencies have contributed to the inclusion of renewable technologies and energy efficient techniques in the project.

The headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels will host the award winning ceremony on May 26, 2008, during which all the winners of the “2007 Energy Globe Awards” will be honored for their achievements in the following themes: earth, water, air, fire and youth.

-August 12, 2006- President Ben Ali reaffirms Tunisia’s commitment to the code of personal status, a pioneering legislation adopted in 1956, which has granted Tunisian women equal rights with men. The code has banned polygamy, forced marriages and repudiation.
