Japanese donation enables acquisition of Braille printer for Tunisia's National Union for the Blind (UNAT)
Tunis , June 26, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--The ‘Ennour' printing house belonging the National Union for the Blind (UNAT), has recently acquired a Braille printer. The printer, equipped with the latest cutting edge technology and endowed with a great printing capacity, was inaugurated during a ceremony organised at Bir Kassaa, in the Governorate of Ben Arous.
The acquisition was made possible through a Japanese donation of 102,000 dinars, given in support to local micro projects, launched in Tunisia , since 1996, in collaboration with civil society.
The Tunisian Union for the Blind will henceforth be able to reinforce its publication of books, school manuals, and other documents destined to Tunisia 's blind and sight- impaired population, estimated at 30,000.
This initiative will open wide perspectives, promoting culture and information to the blind and sight- impaired people, stressed Mr Imeddeddine Chaker, the Union 's president. He also stressed efforts exerted in Tunisia to enable the integration of categories with specific needs, in all sectors of life.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Japan in Tunisia as well as cadres from the Ben Arous Governorate. Some 103 micro-projects have so far been realized in several areas of Tunisia , within the framework of this Tunisian-Japanese cooperation program, amounting to some 5,21 million dinars.
