A photograph exhibit captures the eternal beauty of Sidi Bou Said
Tunis , June 28, 2007(TunisiaOnline) --Some 23 black and white photographs by the famous French photographer, Jacques Perez are currently exhibited at the Ammar Farhat Gallery in Sidi Bou Said.
In these nostalgia ridden photographs dating from the seventies, Perez portrays Sidi Bou Said as village where time has stopped, alternating light and shade and telling his own story of a sun bathed, high- perched village known for the exquisite softness of its atmosphere.
This ambivalence is artfully represented in Perez's black and white photographs through the contrast set up between the dark and the light aspect of this tourist yet historical village. His special use of light also endows Sidi Bou Said with a sense of mystery and magic, albeit representing real life characters.
The photographs exhibited at the Ammar Farhat Gallery, are also part of a recently published book entitled “Sidi Bou Said”, whose introduction was written by Frederic Mitterrand.
In this beautiful book edited by Dunes publishing, some 200 photographs by the French artist are featured and illustrated by the poetical comments of Leila Ladjimi Sebai who pays a vibrant tribute to both the photographer and to Sidi Bou Said's widely sung, but always inspiring shades of blue and white.
