Japanese study confirms Tunisia 's competitiveness in ICT related services

Tunis , June 22, 2007 (TunisiaOnline)--A recent study carried out by a Japanese consulting firm, says that Tunisia has the potential for becoming an international center of information and communication technologies related services.

Following the study, Tunisia's competitive edge is based on 4 indicators including the fact that 50% of Tunisian exports are part of the offshore regime, the country adds the study has boasted an average growth of 4,5 % per year , moreover some 70% of Tunisia's 2500 offshore companies are situated in free economic zones and finally the future beneficial impact of the presence on the labor market of some 500,000 university students by 2009.

The study also suggests three areas of improvement in order to bolster Tunisia 's competitiveness as a site of investment in high value added sectors. First the country should promote further its electronic industry, second it should develop its basic technological infrastructure, and third it should become a supplier, as well as an exporter of services.

The study was presented at the opening of the 9 th edition of the Carthage Investment Forum, which gathered 250 participants from 25 countries.

The Forum which is jointly organized by the Agency for the Promotion of External Investments under the aegis of the ministry of development and international cooperation, aims at offering an opportunity for Tunisian and foreign investors to be informed of the various incentives and advantages of investing in Tunisia .
