African Football Cup of Nations: Tunisia qualifies for Ghana 2008

Tunis , June 16, 2007- (TunisiaOnline)-- By defeating Mauritius 2- 0 in Rades on Saturday, the Carthage Eagles have earned their qualification for the Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations.

Tunisia 's goals were scored by Issam Jomaa at the 44' minute and Nafti at the 50' minute of a match where Mauritius had decided to put up a tough fight.

The victory places Tunisia on top of Group A with 13 points. It is followed by the Sudan ( 12 pts ), the Seychelles (3pts) and Mauritius (1pt).

Next September Tunisia will play the last leg of the qualifier against the Sudan in Khartoum , however regardless of the result Tunisia is already qualified, needing just a draw to finish on top their group.

-August 12, 2006- President Ben Ali reaffirms Tunisia’s commitment to the code of personal status, a pioneering legislation adopted in 1956, which has granted Tunisian women equal rights with men. The code has banned polygamy, forced marriages and repudiation.
