Two young Tunisian swimmers earn gold medals in swimming challenge
Tunis , June 8, 2007 (TunisiaOnline)--Two Tunisian swimmers, a boy and a girl aged respectively 14 and 16, earned gold medals by topping the field in a long- distance swimming race between the island of Kerkennah and the city of Sfax . The Kerkennah islands are distant 15 kilometers from the Tunisian coast.
The international event dubbed ‘Tethys Challenge Formula 7777' , took place on June 6, 2007 , within the framework of the Tunisian Island Tour Swimming Challenge. Both swimmers covered the race in about 3 hours and thirty minutes, a full fifteen minutes before the rest of the group.
Seven swimmers from Britain , India and Norway also took part in the race and were awarded medals, during a ceremony held in their honor in Sfax.
The competition is the first leg of this international long- distance swimming challenge. Other races are scheduled to take place between seven Tunisian islands and other coastal areas in Tunisia .
