When east meets west: 2nd edition of “Nabeul Cinematographic Nights” under the sign of cosmopolitanism
Tunis, July 22, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--From July 25 to 30, 2008, Nabeul will host the second edition of the “Nabeul Cinematographic Nights” at the Sidi Slimene cultural space, in Neapolis. The event which will open with Naceur Kmir’s “Bab Aziz”, will feature some 128 films from all parts of the world.
The festival which specializes in short feature movies, is organized in collaboration with “Gulf Film Festival” and the “Festival de l’Amour” of the city of Mons in Belgium. Incidentally, the province of Hainaut, of which Mons is part, is twinned with Nabeul.
The event will comprise, as part of a collaborative venture with the young, but promising Abou Dhabi documentary festival, dubbed ‘Anasy’, a showing of some of the festival’s award winning films.
Alongside its rich and varied schedule, the event will also feature “under the moonlight gatherings”, featuring impromptu discussions between filmmaker, actors and public, including Moncef Dhouib, Hichem Rostom, Fatma Saidane, Raouf Ben Amor, Naceur Kmir, Nouri Bouzid, and Mohammed Ali Ben Jemaa.
In the words of the festival’s director, Mr Anis Lassoued, “We aim at launching true debates between the cinema lover and the artist within a convivial atmosphere. We truly believe that such discussions can pull down the barriers between the public and creators.”
Mr Lassoued also added that this second edition of the festival was able to benefit from the support of the Ministry of culture and heritage preservation, the French cooperation institute, the Tunis Goethe Institute, as well as other partners.
A truly international event, which will enable Tunisian cinema lovers to discover western cinematographic productions, and western viewers to find out more about Arab and eastern cinema in general.
