Mythical Tunis hotel is reborn
Tunis , July 14, 2007 (TunisiaOnline)--Originally built in 1911, the “ Tunisia Palace ” remained one of the favourite lodgings of the jet set of the French ‘Belle époque': emissaries, diplomats, intellectuals and senior officers, before and after the country's independence.
After its years of glory, the "Palace" gradually fell into oblivion and ruin, before being demolished in 1970. Some 37 years later, in 2007, the hotel reopened in style, albeit a few hundred meters from its original location.
It is now a four star luxury "charm hotel", whose façade in typical postmodern fashion combines the attributes of early century baroque French style, Venetian style as well as Arab architecture.
The main hall awesome by its sheer solemnity, also conveys a certain warmth and conviviality, telling a nostalgic story of bygone days. The rooms furnished with a rustic taste and adorned in red, in addition to the delightful restaurant and bar corners and majestic columns, also contribute to this harmonious blend of the old and new.
Like in all fairy tales, the recreation of the myth of the “Tunisia Palace” has necessitated the good will, unflinching faith and … hard investment of prominent actors such as the ‘Amen Bank' that funded the project and the managerial skills of the ‘Golden Jasmine Hotels' chain launched by Tunisian businessman Adel Boussarsar.
The chain, which controls some 11 units throughout Tunisia , specializes in luxury hotel resorts, combining leisure with business tourism.
