Tunisian doctors experiment new successful technique in tumor removal
Tunis , July 10, 2007 (TunisiaOnline)--A team of Tunisian multidisciplinary doctors performed brain surgery on four patients without anesthetics, a first in Tunisia and in Africa.
The Tunisian medical team, assisted by Professor Hughes Duffau, a neurosurgeon from Montpellier, southern France, were able to remove cervical tumors from the barins of four patients, in the private specialized clinic of La Soukra, north of Tunis.
This kind of surgery aims mainly at reducing the risks of allergic reactions to anesthetics and also at allowing surgeons to better monitor the neurological effects of the surgery during the operation itself. The percentage of success of the tumor removal procedure is three times better under this method .
