Tunisia takes part in 9th African Union Summit in Accra, Ghana
Tunis , July 2, 2007 (TunisiaOnline)--Mr Mohamed Ghannouchi, Tunisia 's Prime Minister, is currently representing Tunisia at the 9 th African Union Summit in Accra , Ghana.
On the sidelines of the Summit which opened yesterday in the Ghanaian capital, Mr Ghannouchi conferred with several African leaders who voiced their consideration for Tunisia 's active role in the defence of African causes.
The Summit , which will close on Tuesday, is placed under the motto the ‘Grand Debate'.
It is scheduled to examine and lay down the draft foundations of an African Union government, thus fulfilling one of the aspirations of the previous Organization of African Unity.
The 53 African Unity member countries are all expected to take part in the event.
International observers note that while some African countries are adopting a cautious approach to the idea of an African Union government, others are in favour of it, believing that such unity is likely to enable the African continent to find a solution to its chronic problems of poverty and unemployment.
