Athletics: Tunisia tops the field at the “Zitouna 2007” international meeting.
Tunis , July 2, 2007 (TunisiaOnline)--Tunisia ranked first in the Zitouna 2007” international meeting earning in all 27 medals: 9 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze.
The competition takes its name from the well-known Zitouna Athletic club which produced many champions in Tunisia 's track and field, as well as other individual sports.
The competition which took place in Rades, south of Tunis , on June 30, 2007 , witnessed the participation of some 80 athletes representing 23 countries.
Various major athletic events were featured, including men's 110m hurdles, 400 m , 1500m, 3000m steeple chase, relay 4x400m, hammer throw, shot put and javelin, pole vault and long jump.
Women's competitions comprised 200m, 800m, 1500m, long jump hammer and disc throw.
This International Meeting was marked by the setting of a new national record in the 110 meter hurdles by the Tunisian athlete Aymen Ben Hamed, who covered the distance in 13''76.
Tunisian women athletes earned three gold medals in this sports event.
It is worth mentioning that this meeting which is one of the events of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), falls within the Grand Prix, A category.
