6, 6 million tourists are expected to visit Tunisia in 2005

It looks like 2005 will be record year for Tunisian tourism. The first six months of the year show already an increase of 11% of the number of visitors in the country and the second semester is expected to be confirm the trend. All in all, 6,6 million visitors are expected to visit the country in 2005, thus representing an increase of 22% in comparison with 2001, which is considered by Tunisian tourism professionals "the reference year" in terms of tourist affluence.
It is also expected that the number of French tourists will increase by 13% this year to reach 1.1 million visitors; similarly, the number of German tourists visiting Tunisia is also on the rise and is expected to grow, to reach 650,000 visitors in 2005.
So far, 847,031 Libyans have visited the country (+3,2%). They are followed by the French with 719,641 visitors(+ 21,5%), Algerians 408,711 (+1,6%), Germans 290,385 (+4,1%), Italians 261,899 (+15,6%).
Visitors to Tunisia also come from Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Malta, Scandinavia, Eastern and central Europe, Turkey, Arab countries and Asian countries.
The increase in the number of tourist entries has generated an increase in the country's foreign currency revenue. Figures released by the Central Bank show an increase of about 38.1% of the foreign currency revenue by comparison with 2003.
