Tunis, 24 August 2005 - (TunisiaOnline)

Tunisia's "grape capital", Grombalia, some 40 kilometers from the capital city, Tunis, celebrates the 46th edition of its annual grapes festival from August 25 to September 4, 2005.

The festival's kick off will be the launch of the grape harvest in one of the town's vineyards.

The festival's program includes theatrical performances, musical concerts and various other shows. Floats will parade in the streets of the town displaying the various aspects of the area's socio-economic life and namely that of wine production.

An agricultural fair will also take place with the participation of the Nabeul regional agricultural authority and professionals in the sector. On August 29 a work day will be held on the theme: " Facts and perspectives in the sector of winegrowing in the Cap Bon area".

Two tents will set up for the occasion enabling visitors to taste samples of the local grape production.

Wine production in Tunisia dates back to the Roman times, especially in the area of Utica in Northern Tunisia. Nowadays, most of the country's wine making is produced by the private sector.
