Creation of five new cyber-parks in Tunisia

As part of the government's objectives to invest in innovative research and technological renovation, a special cabinet meeting has examined a draft bill aimed at the creation of five new technological parks in the country. The project will be realized as part of the country's 10th development plan.
These parks will be set up respectively in Monastir, Sousse, Sfax, Bizerta and Sidi Thabet. Each of these projects will specialize in different areas of scientific research and industrial applications.
The Sousse technological park will specialize in mechanical engineering, electricity and computer science. Its initial cost is expected to reach 70 million dinars. The Sfax cyber -park will specialize in computer science and multimedia and will cost 80 million dinars. The Bizerta cyber-park will specialize in modern industrial mechanism applied to the food industry and will cost 74 million dinars. The Monastir cyber-park which will cover an area of 100 hectares, will focus on research in the area of textiles and will contribute to the technological upgrading of Tunisia's textile industry in a highly competitive world market. Finally, the Sidi Thabet project will specialize in biotechnologies applied to the health sector and namely to the pharmaceutical industry; its estimated cost is 89 million dinars.
In 2001 there were only 2 cyber-parks in the country, currently there are 14 and their number is expected to reach 55 end of 2005.
