Tunisia "welcomes" Israeli withdrawal
from Gaza

Tunisia welcomed today Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza strip and called it "an important step."

"Tunisia follows with attention the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza strip and welcomes this development which constitutes an important step towards completing Israeli withdrawal from all the West bank, so as to establish a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region," said a statement issued Friday by the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement also reiterated Tunisia's "total and unwavering support to the Palestinian authority and the Palestinian people" and called upon the member-countries of the Middle east Quartet to "boost the peace momentum in the region" in order to "overcome the obstacles that could hinder negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis".
